Terms of Use

Effective August 10, 2026

Read this before you rely on a result. The tools here are for planning. They are not professional advice and not a substitute for a licensed professional, a permit, or code compliance. By using the site you agree to these terms.

These Terms of Use are an agreement between you and TradesWorkbench (tradesworkbench.com). If you do not agree with them, please do not use the site.

What the site is

TradesWorkbench provides free, browser-based decision tools for the trades. Each tool takes the conditions you enter and returns a recommendation with its reasoning, alternatives, and tradeoffs. The tools are a starting point for a decision, not a final authority on it.

Planning tools, not professional advice

Nothing on this site is professional, engineering, legal, or safety advice, and using it does not create any professional relationship. The tools do not certify that anything meets code, and they cannot know the specifics of your job, your building, or the rules where you work. Building codes change by edition and location. Before you act on any result, confirm it against the code adopted in your area and, where the work calls for it, have it reviewed, installed, and inspected by a licensed professional. Our full disclaimer is part of these terms.

Your responsibilities

You are responsible for how you use the results. That means confirming the current, correct reference values for your situation, respecting the limits each tool states, and taking seriously any point where a tool says a decision is outside its scope or needs a professional. Safety-critical electrical, gas, and structural work can cause fire, injury, or death if it is wrong. Treat these tools accordingly.

Acceptable use

You may use the tools for your own work, personal or commercial. You agree not to misuse the site, which includes trying to break, overload, or gain unauthorized access to it, scraping it in a way that disrupts service, or removing the sources, disclaimers, or attributions the tools display.

Intellectual property

The site, its design, its text, and the decision logic behind the tools belong to TradesWorkbench and are protected by law. The reference figures the tools use come from published standards, which remain the property of their publishers and are cited on each engine. You may use and share the Decision Records you generate for your own projects.

No warranty

The site and everything on it are provided as is and as available, without warranty of any kind. We do not guarantee that a result is accurate, complete, current, or suitable for your project, and we do not guarantee that the site will always be available or error-free. You use it at your own risk.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, TradesWorkbench is not liable for any loss, damage, cost, or injury arising from your use of the site or your reliance on any result, whether the claim is based on contract, negligence, or anything else. If some of this limit is not enforceable where you live, the rest still applies.

Links to other sites

Where we cite or link to an outside source, we do so for reference. We are not responsible for the content, accuracy, or availability of sites we do not control.

Changes

We may update these terms or the tools at any time. When we change the terms we will update the effective date on this page. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the new terms.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Arizona, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules, and any dispute relating to them or to the site will be handled in the state or federal courts located in Arizona.
