Trade Unit Converter

Convert the length, area, volume, flow, pressure, power, and temperature units used in the trades.

How this works

Pick a category, type a value, and choose the units. The converter uses exact or standard factors and shows the same quantity in every unit of that category, so a cubic yard reads out in cubic feet and gallons at the same time. Temperature uses its own Fahrenheit and Celsius scale.

It covers the conversions that actually come up in the field, from feet of head to psi and tons of cooling to BTU per hour, the same relationships the pump, pipe, and HVAC tools use.

Common questions

What can it convert?

The quantities that come up on a jobsite: length, area, volume, liquid flow, pressure, power, and temperature. Each conversion shows the value in every unit of that category at once, so you can read across without a second lookup.

How many BTU in a ton of cooling?

One ton of cooling is 12,000 BTU per hour by definition, so a 3-ton system is 36,000 BTU per hour. Pick Power, enter the tons, and convert to BTU per hour to see it.

How do I convert psi to feet of head?

One psi is about 2.31 feet of water column. Pick Pressure, enter your psi, and convert to feet of head. It is the same relationship the pump and pipe tools use for pressure.
